Radboud Numismatic Collection

The Radboud University holds an extensive collection of ancient Greek and Roman coins. This digital presentation offers access to highlights from the collection and invites visitors to explore the rich visual and monetary history of the ancient world.

About the Collection

The Radboud Numismatic Collection comprises more than 3,000 ancient coins, originating from two major donations: the Storms Collection and the Bloemendal Collection. Together, they provide students, teachers, and researchers with a tangible connection to the monetary systems, iconography, and craftsmanship of antiquity.

The Storms Collection

Donated to Radboud University in 1975 by J.J.H. Storms, this collection consists of several hundred mainly silver and bronze coins from the Roman Republic and the Imperial period. It forms the historical core of Radboud’s numismatic holdings. You can see some of them at the top of this page.

The Bloemendal Collection

Donated in 2022 by Martin Bloemendal and Geesken Bloemendal-ter Horst, this remarkable collection includes 2,630 coins from across the ancient world. It focuses primarily on Classical-Hellenistic and Roman Provincial coinage, offering a broad panorama of the economic and artistic life of the Mediterranean world.
